The TRUST supports the education and equipment needs of the hospital. In 2011, more than $325,000 in TRUST funding was spent on equipment, education of hospital staff and health programs and services. A significant portion of that money, $89,500, was spent on professional and continuing education for staff, but the bulk of it—$200,000—was spent on new equipment and facility upgrades. Providing hospital staff with the education and equipment they need to stay on the leading edge of medical technology ensures high-quality care when you and your family need it.
Advancing technology
While McCullough-Hyde Hospital does reserve a portion of its budget for equipment purchases, it relies on the TRUST for additional funding for equipment and technology. In the last ten years, the TRUST provided:
- Partial funding for the three-year hospital-wide, Health Information System, an integrated electronic health record system linking patient records within the hospital and with physician offices.
- New microscope, centrifuge and refrigeration equipment for the laboratory.
- A computerized order-entry system for physicians, allowing for faster, more accurate testing and results for patients.
- A critical care ventilator for the respiratory department.
- The beautiful new Wilfried Leder Oncology Center.
- Hospital-wide cardiac monitoring system.
- Computer-aided mammography software for more accurate cancer detection.
- CT Scanner which provides more detailed imaging views, including cross-sections, than x-rays. CT scanning is more effective than an MRI.
- Telemedicine system utilizing the internet so that radiology images can be viewed anywhere and anytime. The technology is especially beneficial in emergencies when consulting radiologists are not on duty or when images need to be sent to other facilities/departments in advance.
- Computerized IVs for preventing IV infusion errors that occur in conventional pumps by monitoring and logging the infusion process.
- Fetal monitors for detecting and preventing potential birthing complications by monitoring and recording baby's heartbeat and mother's contractions.
- Cell counters that perform essential blood cell counts in the Oxford and Brookville, Ind., laboratory departments.
- Blanket warmer for patients on the inpatient care floor.
- Safe patient handling equipment and training which allows staff to move patients more easily and carefully, especially disabled and obese patients who are unable to move themselves.
Equipment needs
Hospital equipment needs for 2012 exceed $3 million, and reflect the equipment needed at all five of our locations in Oxford, Brookville, Ross and Hamilton. They include:
- Digital radiography upgrades for Oxford and Ross—$300,000.
- Blanket warmer for emergency deptartment—$10,000.
- Electrocardiograph machine for the emergency
deptartment—$11,266.
- Colonscope for endoscopy—$34,000.
- Fetal monitor for OB—$17,750.
- Two specialized beds for ICU—$70,299.

Educational success and needs
TRUST-funded education programs provide staff with new patient care skills and training for new technology and equipment. Your support of the following education programs is welcome.
PDAP Fund
The Professional Development Assistance Program (PDAP) Fund provides the opportunity to pursue professional degrees and certifications in health care for aspiring health care workers and current hospital employees desiring to further their careers. In return for financial assistance for their education, PDAP participants commit to a specified term of employment at McCullough-Hyde.
PDAP participants not only receive financial assistance for their education, but are guaranteed a job after successfully completing their education.
Since its inception in 2001, PDAP has provided more than $730,000 to train 70 individuals. In 2011, five health care professionals were trained in nursing and physical therapy through the Professional Development Assistance Program.

The PDAP Fund underwrites the program; your gifts are welcome.
Baby Bound Fund
The Baby Bound Program is a successful prenatal education program that provides a personal obstetrical registered nurse known as the "Baby Bound Nurse" to expecting parents.
The Baby Bound Nurse meets with the expecting parents during pregnancy to discuss prenatal care for mother and baby during the pregnancy, delivery and post-delivery. Topics covered include nutrition, pregnancy risk factors, delivery pain management options, newborn feeding options, breastfeeding education and support, and access to other support services.
The Baby Bound Program is also enhanced by low-cost classes on childbirth, infant safety and CPR, and "sibling" courses. In addition, Baby Bound provides a low-cost lactation support program that provides nurse counseling and equipment rental and/or purchase for mothers who choose to breastfeed.
The Baby Bound Fund underwrites the cost of the supplemental classes and lactation support for needy parents.
Other educational success highlights
Other successful programs include the Kist and Daniels Scholarship Program, which has awarded 79 scholarships totaling more than $35,500 since its inception in 2000.
