Chefs Celebration 2013
McCullough-Hyde Hospital Trust’s sixth biennial fundraiser, Chefs Celebration 2013 – A Taste of the Arts - at Oxford Community Arts Center on October 5, 2013, was a beautiful success. Chaired by local physician Dr. Kevin and Kristi Campbell, the event raised $100,000 to purchase equipment for the hospital, including a critical care bed for ICU, a birthing bed for OB, and rehabilitation equipment for Physical Therapy.
A “taste of something new” guided the fundraiser and featured a new venue and a focus on fine dining, enhanced by music and the fine arts. The most exciting new addition was the artistic dining experience designed by Cincinnati based Master Chef Paul Sturkey. He created a special menu prepared and served by a group of eight of his chef friends and peers, all of whom are artists with food. Their artistic menu offerings were paired with fine wines and beers to complete the tasteful experience. Chef and wine stations were located throughout the venue for each guest to indulge in a wide variety of artistic tasting.
The black-tie event for 240 guests showcased gourmet cuisine prepared by regional chefs, including Jean-Robert deCavel, owner/chef of Jean-Robert’s Table in Cincinnati, the husband and wife team of Paul and Pam Sturkey from West Chester, and Chef Jackson Rouse from Cincinnati’s Rookwood Pottery Restaurant. They were joined by Chef Nat Blanford of the Embers in Cincinnati, chef team Sean Bement and Dave Taylor of Cincinnati’s LaPoste, and Francesca Veitch of Nicola’s. Northern Kentucky chef Stephen Williams of Bouquet, Marcum Center’s Ginny Thiell, and Jean Philippe Solnom of Cincinnati’s French Crust Café completed Paul Sturkey’s chef team.
To enhance the dining experience, Dr. Gil and Joyce Gordon expertly paired the chefs’ cuisine with several wines from their private cellar, while the remaining pairing wines were sponsored by Dr. John Svirbely, Jack and Joani Fontaine, Bryan and Cheryl Hehemann, and Oxford Internal Medicine. Champagne and table wine were served courtesy of Main Street Gourmet, while Oxford Spirits provided specialty craft beers and after-dinner liqueurs. Guests were also treated to specialty coffees and teas, served by the Oxford Coffee Company.
Live music and a special art exhibit featuring new work from artists from the Hospital’s annual Healing Arts exhibits filled the venue and complimented the dining, adding a special glow to the evening.
“Chefs Celebration 2013 was an enormous success, and it continues to grow and benefit McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital,” said hospital Development Director Julie Nickell. “The support of our dedicated committee and generous sponsors ensures that McCullough-Hyde is equipped with the latest technology.”
